Basketball Game Preview: Spring Valley Vikings vs. Lugoff-Elgin Demons

Spring Valley is 10-0 against Lugoff-Elgin since January of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Spring Valley Vikings will be playing at home against the Lugoff-Elgin Demons at 6:30 p.m. Spring Valley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully Lugoff-Elgin likes a good challenge.

Spring Valley will bounce into Friday's match after beating Westwood, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Spring Valley strolled past Westwood with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 57-40. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Redhawks are ranked 87th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Spring Valley had a senior duo take command as Lauren Crosland went 7 of 12 en route to 16 points and Zie'L Ratchford went 6 of 8 on her way to 14 points. Ratchford has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.

Meanwhile, Lugoff-Elgin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 57-48 to Westwood.

Spring Valley's victory bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Lugoff-Elgin, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.

Everything came up roses for Spring Valley against Lugoff-Elgin when the teams last played back in December of 2021, as the squad secured a 71-10 win. In that game, Spring Valley amassed a halftime lead of 46-3, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
