Baseball Game Preview: North Nodaway Mustangs vs. South Holt Knights

The North Nodaway Mustangs will head out on the road to challenge the South Holt Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Nodaway has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with 25 straight defeats, while South Holt will come in with four straight victories.

Monday just wasn't the day for North Nodaway's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 14-0 to Osborn, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Meanwhile, South Holt posted their closest win since April 22, 2024 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-8 victory over Penney.

Cole Medsker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, River Cotton and Will Jackson did most of the damage at the plate: Cotton scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Jackson scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave Jackson a new career-high. Tayte Prussman was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases.

South Holt pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for North Nodaway, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.

North Nodaway suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to South Holt in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
