Preview: Orland Trojans vs. Woodland Christian Cardinals
Orland is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Woodland Christian is on a 11-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Orland Trojans will take on the Woodland Christian Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Orland extended their postseason success on Saturday against Lassen. They blew past the Grizzlies 41-21.
Orland got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Manny Rodriguez out in front who rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also caught a touchdown. Rodriguez was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards. Isaac Velasquez was another key contributor, rushing for 126 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Meanwhile, Woodland Christian's and Ripon Christian's matchup on Saturday was close at halftime, but Woodland Christian turned on the heat in the second half with 26 points. Woodland Christian put the hurt on Ripon Christian with a sharp 36-14 victory. Woodland Christian's victory was all the more impressive since Ripon Christian was averaging only 9.93 points allowed on the season.
Woodland Christian can attribute much of their success to Isaiah Hunt, who rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns, and Noah Hinkle, who gained 141 total yards and three touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Orland to 11-1 and Lassen to 7-6.
