Basketball Recap: Virginia School for the Deaf & Blind Starts Season with Win Against Mt. Carmel Christian Academy

Virginia School for the Deaf & Blind had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with a 37-29 victory over the Mt. Carmel Christian Academy Warriors. For the Fox Defenders, this counts as revenge for the 55-11 win the Warriors walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2017.

Virginia School for the Deaf & Blind's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jaharri Grant led the charge by shooting 47% from the field en route to 14 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Korbin Smith, who posted 12 points and five steals.

Coming up, Virginia School for the Deaf & Blind will look to takes advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they takes on Appalachian Christian School at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mt. Carmel Christian Academy will be paying especially close attention to the Fox Defenders' contest: after the Fox Defenders face off against Pennsylvania School For The Deaf, they'll take on Mt. Carmel Christian Academy again at 6:15 p.m. on January 27, 2026.
