Recap: Woodville-Tompkins Wolverines vs. Savannah Bluejackets
The Woodville-Tompkins Wolverines suffered their biggest defeat since December 5, 2023 on Friday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 40-18 walloping at the hands of Savannah. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Woodville-Tompkins has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Woodville-Tompkins saw an underclassman step up: Danica Edwards scored seven points along with four blocks.
Savannah got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ernajah Mallard out in front who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Mallard hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Tania Bryant, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Woodville-Tompkins' defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-11. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.7 points per game. As for Savannah, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Woodville-Tompkins will be playing in front of their home fans against Metter at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Metter knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten games -- so hopefully Woodville-Tompkins likes a good challenge. As for Savannah, they will head out on the road to square off against Claxton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
