Softball Recap: Notre Dame Prep Takes a Loss

Notre Dame Prep fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Desert Mountain on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 2-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Saints in their meetings with the Wolves: they've now lost seven in a row.

Marley Caldwell spent all 8.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sammy Swords made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole three bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

Notre Dame Prep's loss dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Desert Mountain, the win was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-1-1.

While Notre Dame Prep had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
