Recap: Bloomfield Bees vs. Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats
Even though the Bloomfield Bees have not done well against the Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Bloomfield managed a 48-42 victory over Hartington-Newcastle. The win made it back-to-back wins for Bloomfield.
Layne Warrior continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. That makes it nine consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Bloomfield's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Smith, who scored seven points.
Despite the loss, Hartington-Newcastle saw an underclassman step up: Brayden Lammers scored 13 points along with nine rebounds. Riley Sudbeck was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
Even though they lost, Hartington-Newcastle were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bloomfield only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Bloomfield's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. As for Hartington-Newcastle, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.
Bloomfield will head out on the road to face off against Elgin/Pope John at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Elgin/Pope John is ranked 106th, while Bloomfield is ranked 112th). As for Hartington-Newcastle, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Winside at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Winside focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Tuesday.
