Baseball Recap: Rushville Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Rushville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Franklin County Wildcats 5-4. This was payback for the Lions, who suffered an 8-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

Casey Thompson made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Thompson wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carter Woolf, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Abel Coon was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

Rushville's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-10 and their overall record up to 4-13. As for Franklin County, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.

Rushville didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 14-1 loss against East Central on the 21st. Hopefully Franklin County paid attention to the Lions' game: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
