Softball Recap: Weyauwega-Fremont Find Success

Weyauwega-Fremont's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Amherst Falcons a 1-0 shutout. This was payback for the Warhawks, who suffered a 6-4 loss the last time these two teams met.

Olivia Witkowski made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. That RBI was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hannah Pantzlaff, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Sydney Folk also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Weyauwega-Fremont's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-9. As for Amherst, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Coincidentally, Weyauwega-Fremont and Amherst will both be playing Wittenberg-Birnamwood the next time they take the field. The Falcons will host the Chargers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Warhawks will head out to face them at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
