Baseball Recap: Hammondsport Takes a Loss

Hammondsport had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 0-5 to make it eight. They fell just short of the Naples Big Green Machines by a score of 7-5. The loss was just more heartbreak for the Lakers who fell 5-3 when the teams previously met back in May of 2024.

As for Naples, their record now sits at 2-4. The win continues a trend for them in their matchups with Hammondsport: they've now won six in a row.

For Naples' part, Hunter Jacoby was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Jacoby also tossed no walks, which is notable because Naples is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 0-3 otherwise. Jacoby was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Rowan Biggs was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Chase Bauman was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Hammondsport will head out on the road to square off against Lima Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Naples, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Harley Allendale Columbia at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
