Blacksburg and Chesnee are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2020, but not for long. The Blacksburg Wildcats will host the Chesnee Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Blacksburg: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Chesnee has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
Having struggled with seven defeats in a row dating back to last season, Blacksburg turned things around against Greenville Tech Charter on Friday. They blew past the Warriors 60-36. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Wildcats have posted since January 26th.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Blacksburg to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cameron Cobb, who posted 12 points and five rebounds. Millieyon Gavin was another key player, putting up seven points and seven rebounds.
Blacksburg was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Chesnee didn't have too much trouble with Brashier Middle College Charter on Friday as they won 53-38. The 53-point effort marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Blacksburg better keep an eye on Elijah Brown. He was instrumental in Chesnee's win, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. Brown's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Barnett, who put up seven points and eight rebounds.
Chesnee's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Blacksburg, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Blacksburg has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 33 boards per game. However, it's not like Chesnee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
