Basketball Game Preview: Marian Catholic Spartans vs. Hyde Park Thunderbirds

The Marian Catholic Spartans are taking a road trip to face off against the Hyde Park Thunderbirds at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Marian Catholic's tournament run continued when they took on Oswego East on Monday. Marian Catholic took a hard 67-53 fall against Oswego East.

Meanwhile, Hyde Park didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Evergreen Park on Sunday, but they still walked away with a 69-65 victory. Given the Thunderbirds' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while the Mustangs are ranked 365th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hyde Park has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Marian Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-5.

Marian Catholic skirted past Hyde Park 57-54 in their previous meeting back in November of 2021. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marian Catholic since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
