Basketball Recap: Woodland Snaps Three-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Woodland saw some tournament action on Thursday. They came out on top against the Scotland Fighting Scots by a score of 57-47. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 138th in South Carolina, while the Fighting Scots are ranked 490th in North Carolina), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for JaKease Salley, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and 20 boards. His afternoon made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Aiden Walker, who posted two points and four steals.

Scotland lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jerrison Dixon, who earned 15 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Dixon a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Quatavius Everette, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 10 points and seven rebounds.

Woodland's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-4. As for Scotland, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Woodland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-58 defeat against West Brunswick on the 27th. As for Scotland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 65-57 loss against Whiteville on the 27th.
