Softball Recap: Avon Comes Up Short

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Avon nor Steele made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Eagles took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Comets. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Comets earlier this season, when they won 5-2.

Maria Young spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances.

Avon's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Steele, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.
