Softball Recap: Union Grove Christian Beats Salisbury for Their Sixth Straight Victory

Union Grove Christian waltzed into their game on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They blew past the Salisbury Hornets 15-2. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by 11 runs or more this season.

Morgan Donovant made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Isabella Lott was incredible, scoring three runs while going 4-for-5. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Bethany Yarbrough also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Union Grove Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .472. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Union Grove Christian's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Salisbury, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union Grove Christian will face off against Forsyth Home Educators at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Salisbury, they will take on North Rowan at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
