Basketball Recap: West Johansen Key Part of a Team Effort in Spartans Win

Emery won the last time they faced North Sanpete and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Emery Spartans managed a 57-52 win over the North Sanpete Hawks. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.

Emery got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was West Johansen out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. Johansen is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last seven games he's played. Ajay Thomas also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Emery smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Sanpete only pulled down seven offensive boards.

When it comes to explaining why North Sanpete lost, don't look at Ridge Hendry. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. What's more, Hendry also racked up three blocks, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. McKay Schlappi was another key player, putting up 12 points.

The win got Emery back to even at 11-11. As for North Sanpete, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.

Emery didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-58 loss against Juab on the 7th. As for North Sanpete, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 59-58 defeat against Carbon on the 7th.
