Basketball Game Preview: Walnut Wildcats vs. Ingomar Falcons

Walnut is 1-7 against Ingomar since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Walnut Wildcats will take on the Ingomar Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Walnut is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They blew past Union 64-11. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Ingomar entered their tilt with Charleston on Monday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They claimed a resounding 71-10 win over the Tigers. The game marked the Falcons' most dominant victory of the season.

Walnut better keep an eye on Macie Phifer. She was instrumental in Ingomar's win, going 11 for 14 to rack up 26 points. That's the most points Phifer has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cadie Jo Byrd, who scored ten points and three steals.

Ingomar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Walnut's record now sits at 27-4. As for Ingomar, their record is now 28-2.

Walnut might still be hurting after the 65-43 loss they got from Ingomar in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Phifer, who went 10 of 14 on her way to 24 points and five steals.
