Softball Game Preview: Santa Fe Chiefs vs. Concordia Fighting Orioles

Santa Fe is 1-9 against Concordia since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Chiefs will host the Fighting Orioles at 4:00 p.m. Santa Fe has given up an average of 7.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Santa Fe came up short against Green Ridge on Monday, falling 20-1. The Chiefs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Concordia waltzed into their game on Monday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Fighting Orioles, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Olivia Hemme made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Addison Roepe was a standout: she scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Karleigh Wilckens was another key player, going 1-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.

Concordia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .640. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in seven consecutive contests.

Concordia's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Santa Fe, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
