Basketball Game Preview: Burke County Bears vs. Laney Wildcats

The Burke County Bears will venture away from home to challenge the Laney Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Burke County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matches.

If Laney heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Burke County took over last week. Burke County sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 77-74 victory over Screven County on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Laney had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They walked away with a 50-42 win over the Rebels. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Rebels are ranked 395th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Laney is also on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Burke County, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Things could have been worse for Burke County, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 72-53 loss to Laney when the teams last played back in January of 2020. Can Burke County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
