Volleyball Recap: Mater Academy East Las Vegas Starts off Right with Win over Cristo Rey St. Viator

Mater Academy East Las Vegas had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They put the hurt on the Cristo Rey St. Viator Royals with a sharp 3-0 win on Wednesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Knights as it put an end to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season.

The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 25-21, 25-14.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Malcolm Lawrence led the charge by getting ten aces, five digs, and two blocks. What's more, Lawrence posted two kills, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Maximiliano Ortega, who had 20 digs and three aces.

Coming up, Mater Academy East Las Vegas will welcome Pinecrest Academy Cadence at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cristo Rey St. Viator, they will venture away from home to face off against Somerset Academy Losee at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
