Basketball Recap: Opelika Comes Up Short

Opelika was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 49-41 loss to the Smiths Station Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 266th, while the Panthers are ranked 99th).

Opelika's defeat dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Smiths Station, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-5.

Opelika will square off against Central at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.6 points per game this season. As for Smiths Station, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Smiths Station Panthers duke it out with the Auburn Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
