Softball Recap: Yuba City Find Success

Yuba City lost to East Union back in May of 2018, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Honkers skirted past the Lancers 5-4.

Maddison Stead spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Naiema Cawthon, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Chloe Gonzales, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

Yuba City's record is now 13-3-1. As for East Union, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Yuba City will host Nevada Union at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for East Union, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mountain House at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
