Basketball Recap: Brielle Johnson Key Part of a Team Effort in Vipers Win

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly hadn't done well against Gillespie recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly Vipers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Gillespie Miners, sneaking past 42-39. This was a revenge game for the Vipers: when they faced off against the Miners back in December of 2024, they had to take a 58-42 loss.

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brielle Johnson, who posted eight points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jenna McGath, who had eight points and three steals.

New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly's victory bumped their record up to 16-8. As for Gillespie, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly will face off against Pawnee/Calvary/Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Gillespie, they will challenge Hillsboro at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
