Volleyball Recap: Mellen Takes a Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Mellen couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They came up short against the Prentice Buccaneers on Saturday, falling 3-0. The loss continues a trend for the Granite Diggers in their meetings with the Buccaneers: they've now lost seven in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Mellen lost, don't look at Gracie Peters. Despite the final result, she had eight digs and two aces. Peters is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 17 or more in each of the last five games she's played.

Prentice was led to victory by Sofie Staroba and Piper Heikkinen. Staroba had 21 assists and six digs, while Heikkinen had 13 digs and three assists.

Mellen's defeat dropped their record down to 23-8. As for Prentice, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-11.

Mellen does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Prentice, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-1 loss against Rib Lake on the 30th.
