Last Monday, Hialeah Educational Academy didn't have quite enough to beat Mater Academy Charter and fell 11-10.
ERNESTO VELASCO and DIEGO PEREZ did some serious damage despite the final result: VELASCO scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while PEREZ went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. VELASCO also hit two doubles, marking his first of the season. ROLANDO MENA was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.
They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Hialeah Educational Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Columbus beat Palmetto 12-7 on Tuesday.
Wyatt Goins looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, Rafael Diaz was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Correa, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
Hialeah Educational Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Columbus, their record now sits at 10-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Hialeah Educational Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Columbus struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.7 strikeouts.
