Softball Game Preview: Groton-Dunstable Crusaders vs. North Middlesex Regional Patriots

For the second straight game, Groton-Dunstable will face off against North Middlesex Regional. The Crusaders are taking a road trip to square off against the Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Groton-Dunstable is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Groton-Dunstable was handed a seven-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over North Middlesex Regional. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Crusaders have posted since April 2nd.

Kaitlin Haggerty spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up ten Ks. Those ten strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Groton-Dunstable's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kierra Scully, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. That triple was Scully's first of the season. Bridget Houle was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Groton-Dunstable hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.

North Middlesex Regional is on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11. As for Groton-Dunstable, their victory ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-8-1.
