Basketball Recap: Newington Nor'easters vs. Holy Cross Crusaders
Newington saw some tournament action on Wednesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 45-44 to the Holy Cross Crusaders.
Newington's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Juliana Flores, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 17 boards. What's more, Flores also posted a 71% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in February of 2024. Kendall Miller was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to five rebounds and three blocks.
Even though they lost, Newington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.
Newington dropped their record down to 13-10 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Holy Cross, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 12-3.
Newington does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Holy Cross, they will face off against Mercy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
