Softball Recap: Lowellville Rockets vs. McDonald Blue Devils
Lowellville extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 2-7 in the process. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the McDonald Blue Devils. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-1 on Monday.
Gianna Palumbo was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
As for McDonald, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games.
On McDonald's side, Aubrey Evans made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Evans has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
Evans wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gianna Mancini, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. Marissa Colarich was another, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
While Lowellville had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
