Basketball Game Preview: Tascosa Rebels vs. Monterey Plainsmen

The Tascosa Rebels will venture away from home to challenge the Monterey Plainsmen at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Monterey will be up against a hot Tascosa team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Tascosa simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Lubbock 61-26. Given the Rebels' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while the Westerners are ranked 792nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Monterey). They took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 79-45 victory over Lubbock. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Tascosa pushed their record up to 17-7 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.4 points per game. As for Monterey, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-15 record this season.

Tascosa didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Monterey in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 57-51 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Tascosa since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
