Volleyball Recap: Norton Science & Language Academy Rockets vs. The Grove School Ravens
Norton Science & Language Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of The Grove School Ravens. While the Rockets didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Ravens 25-7 in the first set.
Norton Science & Language Academy actually scored more points across those five sets (100-88), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 7-25, 16-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-12.
Norton Science & Language Academy's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Genesis Castenada, who had 14 aces and eight kills. The team also got some help courtesy of Aliah Lopez, who had ten aces and eight kills.
Yasmin Asgarzadie was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had nine assists and six aces. Those nine assists gave her a new career-high.
Norton Science & Language Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for The Grove School, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Norton Science & Language Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bethel Christian at 6:30 p.m. on September 4. As for The Grove School, they have already played their next contest, a 2-1 win against New Covenant Academy on the 23rd.
