The game didn’t finish until 11:30 p.m., which kept results from reaching area newspapers, according to a blog by Miguel Melendez preps editor of the Pasadena Star-News.

Despite the length of the game, however, it didn’t come close to the national record, which is nine overtimes.
Trevor Rodriguez mercifully ended the game with a 25-yard touchdown run on a broken play in the fifth overtime.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound senior finished the marathon with 16 carries for 141 yards and accounted for three touchdowns.

MaxPreps western regional manager Stan Granch, who also is the Valley Christian statistician, said, “I have been covering high school sports for 26 years and never have seen a game like this one.

“Most scoring drives take many minutes; the longest one in this game was 1:53. There were 10 scoring drives that took less than one minute. There were 43 points scored in the second quarter, including 21 points in a 51-second span.”

Senior quarterback Ryan Fronke (6-3, 215) set school records by passing for 370 yards and six touchdowns. His 80-yard scoring pass to Tyler Boer with 36 seconds left forced the first overtime. Senior wide receiver Jacob Dupuy (6-2, 205) caught five passes for 141 yards and one touchdown.

For Maranatha, sophomore quarterback Andrew Elfers completed 31 of 57 passes for 541 yards and six touchdowns.
