After flying high against Laney on Tuesday, Topsail came back down to earth. The Pirates fell 3-1 to the Hoggard Vikings on Thursday. The Pirates' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Topsail started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-14.

Their offense was headlined by Valentina Bugnatto and Sarah Cutler, who picked up seven kills apiece. They got some help from Hannah Losey and her 21 assists.

Topsail's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-3. As for Hoggard, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3.

Topsail didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 win against West Brunswick on the 9th. As for Hoggard, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Laney on the 9th.
