Football Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Saegertown

Saegertown extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 4-3. They took down the Maplewood Tigers 26-8. The Panthers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Tigers, too.

William Shaffer was his usual excellent self, rushing for 78 yards and a pair of TDs, while also throwing for 77 yards and one touchdown.

Saegertown didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Maplewood to a completion percentage of just 42.3%. The Panthers weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 53.3%.

Saegertown didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Riley Wilkinson, Shaffer, and Westin Baker picked up one apiece.

As for Maplewood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5. Despite 67 more yards than Saegertown, the Tigers couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Despite the defeat, Maplewood saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mason Potosky rushed for 87 yards and one score. Potosky's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards.

Saegertown has already played their next contest, a 43-6 loss against Greenville on the 10th. As for Maplewood, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 25-12 defeat against Cambridge Springs on the 10th.
