Basketball Recap: Centennial Gets the Win

Centennial is still undefeated this season after their contest against Pinnacle on Saturday, but Pinnacle came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Coyotes came out on top in a nail-biter against the Pioneers, sneaking past 56-54. While the Coyotes didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Johnny Rios continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds. Those ten boards gave him a new career-high. Moses Woinewala also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Pinnacle lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Cam Hurt, who shot 47% from the field to rack up 17 points and five steals. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.5 steals per game. Kareem Alkhalifa was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven rebounds.

Centennial's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Pinnacle, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-2 record.

Looking ahead, Centennial will challenge O'Connor at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Pinnacle, they will take on Canyon View at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
