Basketball Game Preview: Port Charlotte Pirates vs. Cape Coral Seahawks

Port Charlotte hasn't had much luck against Cape Coral recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Port Charlotte Pirates will take on the Cape Coral Seahawks at 7:00 p.m. Port Charlotte is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games.

Port Charlotte is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They blew past North Fort Myers, posting a 57-28 victory. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten matches by 20 points or more this season.

Hailey Cohen and Jesslymar Santa were among the main playmakers for Port Charlotte as the former went 8 for 14 on her way to 17 points and four steals and the latter went 6 of 14 to rack up 15 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. Cohen's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 17 points. Cymone Bailey was another key player, putting up six points.

Port Charlotte was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Fort Myers only racked up two assists.

Meanwhile, Cape Coral didn't have quite enough to beat North Fort Myers on Thursday and fell 35-32.

Port Charlotte's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.6 points over those games. As for Cape Coral, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-7.

Port Charlotte took their victory against Cape Coral in their previous meeting back in February of 2021 by a conclusive 56-35. Does Port Charlotte have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cape Coral turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
