Coastal Academy hadn't done well against Escondido Charter recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Stingrays narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Tigers 6-5. This was a revenge game for the Stingrays: when they faced off against the Tigers back in March, they had to take a 15-9 defeat.

Therese Frazer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Coastal Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cayla Contreras, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Kaycee Pinto was another, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Coastal Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.

Coastal Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Escondido Charter, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 16-4.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Coastal Academy will challenge rival Tri-City Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Stingrays 4.1, the Eagles 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Escondido Charter is set to face off against their familiar foe Bishop's at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
