Softball Recap: Defiance Takes a Loss

Defiance dropped their record down to 9-4 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 6-0 to the Ayersville Pilots. The Bulldogs were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but the Pilots' pitcher proved too tough.

Natalie Ordway spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.

As for Ayersville, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-4. The result was nothing new for the Pilots, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

On Ayersville's side, Kendra Waldron made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. Those 18 strikeouts gave Waldron a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aeriel Brown, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Daniella Coble, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Defiance will square off against Van Wert at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Ayersville, they will face off against Paulding at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Pilots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
