Softball Recap: Calhoun Comes Up Short

Calhoun extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 12-6 in the process. They lost 7-0 to the Auburn Trojans. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Warriors have suffered since May 10, 2024.

Audrey Gilman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.

As for Auburn, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Auburn's side, the result came thanks to Meena Taylor's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 14 Ks.

On the hitting side, Addison Wheatley was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Addison Jones was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Calhoun and Auburn should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Warriors (ranked 149th) will meet North Greene (ranked 495th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Auburn will challenge Nokomis at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (77 vs. 449).
