Basketball Game Preview: Germantown Mavericks vs. Callaway Chargers

Germantown is 6-0 against Callaway since January of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Germantown Mavericks will look to defend their home court against the Callaway Chargers at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, Germantown was able to grind out a solid victory over Ridgeland, taking the game 61-54.

Germantown had a senior duo take command as Julia Glasgow went 6 of 10 on her way to 14 points in addition to seven boards and six assists and Charlie Gamberine went 5 for 11 on her way to 17 points and five assists. Those five assists gave Gamberine a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayla Benson, who posted 13 points.

Meanwhile, Callaway waltzed into their game on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with a 65-58 win over the Jaguars. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Jaguars are ranked 94th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Germantown is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points per game. As for Callaway, their victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1.

Germantown skirted past Callaway 57-54 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Does Germantown have another victory up their sleeve, or will Callaway turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
