Basketball Recap: Murphy Takes a Loss

Murphy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were beaten by the Cherokee Braves 73-19. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 55-3.

Cherokee got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Whitney Rogers out in front who went 5 for 9 en route to 15 points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Rogers a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Cecily 'Dvdaya' Swimmer, who posted 15 points and four steals.

Murphy's loss dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Cherokee, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season.

Murphy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 48-39 victory against Swain County on the 10th. As for Cherokee, they will take on Robbinsville at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Robbinsville comes in on three and Cherokee on seven.
