Sydney Root made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. Those 18 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sariah McNabb, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Noelani Romo was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs.
Xavier College Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sunnyslope only posted an OBP of .083.
Meanwhile, Notre Dame Prep earned a 5-2 win over Campo Verde on Friday.
Like Xavier College Prep, Notre Dame Prep also got a great game from a two-way player: Marley Caldwell. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Caldwell was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Notre Dame Prep let Maggie Spokas and Kendall Gillham run wild. Spokas went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Gillham went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Xavier College Prep is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Notre Dame Prep, their win bumped their record up to 20-6.
Both Xavier College Prep and Notre Dame Prep just can't seem to miss. The Gators have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. However, it's not like Notre Dame Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.4 hits.
