League recap: Saltillo's Elliott delivers best pitching performance from past week

5A Region 2 league recap: 3/27/13

Hayden Elliott was the best pitcher in 5A Region 2 this week, leading Saltillo. He won one game and retired 15 batters.

The Tigers and New Hope are tied atop the standings of the league, leaving first place open for the taking.

The Trojans' pitching staff had a strong showing this week, allowing only one hit and two walks, both of which led the league.

The league boasted seven .400 hitters over the past week. They were led by Will Golsan, who hit .750 this week (3-for-4).

Rooke Coleman drove in four runners as New Hope defeated Oxford 8-0 on Tuesday. He went 2-for-4 and scored two runs.



Tory Gifford threw a shutout as he led Saltillo to victory over West Point, 3-0, on Tuesday. He pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out 11, while giving up three hits.
