Basketball Recap: Southwest Comes Up Short

Southwest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They lost 45-24 to the Academy for Classical Education Gryphons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 53-21 back in January.

Despite the defeat, Southwest saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jamiriah Newsome went 6 of 10 on her way to 13 points.

Academy for Classical Education's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sara Rhett Farmer led the charge by putting up 12 points and four steals. Farmer has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Zhoie Stanley was another key player, posting eight points in addition to six steals and five rebounds.

Southwest's loss dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Academy for Classical Education, they pushed their record up to 17-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Southwest has already played their next game, a 44-34 defeat against Central on the 1st. As for Academy for Classical Education, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 56-44 victory against Bleckley County on the 1st.
