The Fort Loramie Redskins will challenge the Houston Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Fort Loramie turned things around against Russia on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past the Raiders 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Redskins have posted since April 5, 2024.
Katelyn Poeppelman was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kendall Tennery, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Houston entered their tilt with Spencerville on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Bearcats a 9-0 shutout. Considering the Wildcats have won four matches by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Spencerville's batters probably weren't too happy with Makenna Vondenhuevel, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 12 Ks (she gave up a single walk). Vondenhuevel has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on LeeAnna Travis, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Madison Plunkett was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Houston's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Loramie, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-7.
Fort Loramie beat Houston 5-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Do the Redskins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
