Softball Recap: Amity Warriors vs. Elmira Falcons
Amity extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 11-12-1 in the process. They lost 14-2 to the Elmira Falcons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 last Monday.
As for Elmira, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 18-6. Considering they have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
For Elmira's part, Audrey Varozza was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave Varozza a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emily Weston, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Jezianne Carroll was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI.
As of now, neither Amity nor Elmira have any future games scheduled.
