The Arapahoe Warriors will face off against the Broomfield Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. The last three games Arapahoe has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Arapahoe took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past Mullen 8-7. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Carson Shelhorn, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jack Hanifin, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Broomfield made easy work of Monarch on Saturday and carried off a 9-1 win. Considering the Eagles have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Riley Weihing and Brycen Maron dominated on the mound. Weihing pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit, while Maron pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Weihing has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bryce Jackson was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in runs (two). Corbin Frost also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Broomfield lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Arapahoe's record is now 3-10. As for Broomfield, their record now sits at 9-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Arapahoe has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Broomfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Arapahoe couldn't quite finish off Broomfield in their previous matchup back in May of 2017 and fell 6-4. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
