Basketball Recap: Will Pethel's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Armuchee over Coosa

Armuchee lost against Coosa back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Armuchee Indians took a 59-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Coosa Eagles. While the Indians didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Eagles 16-11 in the first quarter.

Armuchee lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Will Pethel, who posted 11 points and six assists. The dominant performance gave Pethel a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Trenton Cothran, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Armuchee smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

It was another big night for Jaylen Worfford, who went 8 of 20 on his way to 16 points and five boards for Coosa. Brandon Porter also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assists of the season.

Armuchee has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. As for Coosa, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-8.

Armuchee didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 85-41 victory against Dalton Academy on the 17th. Coosa has also already played their next game, a 58-52 defeat against Gordon Central on the 17th.
