Basketball Recap: Buena Comes Up Short

Buena was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 54-48 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rincon/University Rangers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Colts this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 46-34 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Buena still got an impressive performance from Icsiss Perez, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 boards. London Richardson was another key player, putting up ten points along with seven rebounds and six assists.

Even though they lost, Buena smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in seven consecutive matchups.

Rincon/University found their leader in sophomore Leila O'Dowd, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Daphne Safo, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.

Buena's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Rincon/University, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Buena didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 51-33 defeat against Flowing Wells on the 21st. Rincon/University has also already played their next matchup, a 62-51 victory against Tucson High Magnet School on the 21st.
