The Edisto Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Edisto is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
Edisto's last matchup with Barnwell could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Friday. The Cougars lost 15-9 to the Warhorses.
Ryder Bingham was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Max Dempsey was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Orangeburg-Wilkinson played in-conference for the first time on Tuesday and got just the result they were looking for. They put the hurt on North Charleston with a sharp 17-1 victory. The contest marked the Bruins' most dominant win of the season.
Leonides Evans was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in both of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Orangeburg-Wilkinson let Xavier Glover and Jordan Hill run wild. Glover scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Hill went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Hill is becoming a predictor of Orangeburg-Wilkinson's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Caleb Haynes, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Orangeburg-Wilkinson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .708. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Orangeburg-Wilkinson is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Edisto, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.
Wednesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Edisto has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .475. However, it's not like Orangeburg-Wilkinson struggles in that department as they've averaged .469. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Edisto beat Orangeburg-Wilkinson 8-5 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
