Basketball Recap: Payson Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Payson ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They skirted past the Alchesay Falcons 46-43. The win was nothing new for the Longhorns as they're now sitting on three straight.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Payson to victory, but perhaps none more so than Clara Whaley, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten steals. Whaley is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Mylee Redford, who posted 17 points and three steals.

Payson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matches.

Payson is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points per game. As for Alchesay, they dropped their record down to 10-11 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Payson will challenge Benjamin Franklin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Alchesay, they will face off against Show Low at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
